Classes

Midwest Academy of Dance has been a part of the Davenport Parks and Recreation Program for 18 yrs. It has provided professional dance instruction at prices affordable to middle and lower income participants. We have classes in tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, hip hop, and modern for all ages - beginners (Level I) to advanced (Level V). New Spanish/English bi-lingual Tap/Ballet I and Jazz I classes for children will be offered on Fridays.

Adult dance classes are available in Modern/Jazz, Ballet, and Tap. New this year are Flamenco/Salsa and Zumba classes. See our class listings.

Our youth performance company, M.A.D. Dance Ensemble, performs at festivals and for organizations around the community and is open to all young dancers 10 yrs and older.

2009/2010 Class Schedule

Fall session begins Monday September 14, 2009 and will run 12 weeks through December 19^th. Classes work on dances for the performance at the Festival of Trees in November and our annual Toys for Tots concert.

Winter session begins January 4, 2010 and will run 19 weeks through May 15 with our recital on May 15. Fees may be divided into 2 equal payments, with payment 1 due on 1/4/2010 and payment 2 due 3/1/2010. Class fees will be pro-rated if starting after the 2^nd week.

It is strongly recommended that you take both Winter and Spring sessions to perform in the Recital

NEW!! FLAMENCO/SALSA CLASS-Want to put a little fun into your life. Join us for a Flamenco class mixed with a little salsa for spice. It’s a great way to exercise and try something different. Couples encouraged.

PRE-SCHOOL – Classes specially designed for pre-school aged children. Includes creative movement, locomotor skills, elementary ballet, and tap technique.

Level I – students receive beginning instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop techniques. Students also learn to work together as an ensemble.

JAZZ – Class develops higher level of jazz technique for students with previous class or show experience.

M.A.D. Dance Ensemble – Perform in full concerts and at area festivals. Experience the thrill and hard work of performing. Midwest Modern Dance Company works in partnership with the Davenport Park and Recreation Dept. to give interested students the experience and the intensity of working as a dance company. Students audition for a place in the company and must be willing to add 1 to 2 extra rehearsals to their weekly dance schedule. Students must be at least 10 years old and taking a dance class.
